Hey Vinelife Church!
In case you missed yesterday’s service, here’s a recap to keep you in the loop.
WORSHIP THEMES //
We engaged in a powerful time of worship. Feel free to listen to these songs again and encounter the Lord today
If you enjoy gardening, we’ll be meeting at the church on Saturday, July 1st from 8 am to noon to tend to the flowers at Vinelife. Bob and Betty Young will be gardening alongside you as well as John and Carolyn Anders who planned the mapping of our current landscape at Vinelife. If you ask me, they did an incredible job! Now it just needs some upkeep.
Kainos Summer Camp
All Jr. High and Sr. High students are invited to join us for Igniting the Tribe Kainos Summer Camp, July 30th through August 2nd. Students will be led into times of encountering God through worship, the word, and adventure in the Pike National Forest. The camp will take place at Lutheran Vally Retreat in Woodland Park, CO. The team will leave after church on July 30th and will return late in the afternoon for a family-style dinner on August 2nd. The total cost of camp is $225. If your camper(s) needs assistance in getting to camp, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We would love to partner with the Father in getting them to camp. Just reach out to the Kainos Leadership Team for fundraising ideas. Get more details and camp forms by going to vinelife.com.
Pastor Luke Humbrecht continued our series “Loving on Location” with testimonies and a call to continue prayer walking in your areas of influence. You can listen the message here and read Luke’s notes below:
Loving on Location is about living in a way where every step is sacred and we are choosing to live “on site with God’s site”
Joshua 1:3 (ESV) – Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.
Prayerwalking is the act of joining God’s Presence with your place. It’s the practice that wakes you up to where God is already at work, so you can see how to join them.
It’s about taking what we love about church services, and combining it with what God loves about the world. – Presence and People.
Prayer is a practice that has an ability to to turn:
- Neighborhoods into mission fields
- Homes into ministry centers
- Believers into missionaries and pastors
- Renters and Residents into Landlords and Owners
It’s not as much about what you’re doing. It’s all about growing in the awareness of God’s Presence and purposes within the places you live.
While it’s true that you can pray from anywhere – there is something that opens up when you pray and watch. You see things you wouldn’t normally see. You begin to notice things that serve as data points that you can take before the Lord.
Prayer walking might not be more effective, but it IS often more informed.
Matthew 9:35-38 (ESV) – 35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
This is the only other time Jesus specifically told his disciples what to pray for. He did this so they would discover they could become the answer to their own prayer.
The Gospel of Luke tells a slightly different version of this story. Jesus speaks this as he sends out the 72.
When He SAW, he had COMPASSION – We have to develop eyes to see.
Harrased & Helpless – Distressed & Dispirited.
It should move us to compassion, not pride.
Pride – “Look at these people – totally, helpless weaklings – pathetic and worthless.”
Humility – “I wish they could see how GOOD of a savior Jesus is. Jesus can help them. Jesus can bring peace!”
Maybe the harvest is more than people getting saved. It’s all the facets of the Kingdom being realized.
DEVELOPING EYES TO SEE
So when we’re talking about prayerwalking, a good question is – what are we supposed to be looking for? What should we be seeing and noticing?
More importantly – How do we see through what everyone else sees into what God sees?
“Those are just homes, cars, parks, schools, businesses, etc…”
What to look for in Neighborhoods:
- People; As an owner I want to know who lives in my neighborhood
- Spend time in front yard, not just back yard.
- Learn names of neighbors
- Houses for Sale / New Neighbors
- Business Vehicles parked in driveways
- Intercession: Divorces, abuse, crime; drug use, loneliness
In the City:
- Print of your address on Google Maps.
- Draw a 2 mile circle around your home.
- School names / Principles
- Business Names / Owners
- City Council Members
- Churches / Pastors and Church Leaders
- Non-Profits / Directors
- Neighborhood Names
- Police Dept. / Fire Dept.
