Get to know Valerie …
What’s your position at Vinelife? Vinelife Kids Team Lead
What brought you to Vinelife for the first time? My first visit was to volunteer for a Resound Conference.
Why did you stay? We stayed because Vinelife has become family. The house here is seeking to rest in His dwelling place continually and out of it, hosting the flame for revival in our region.
How did you come to know Jesus? Through the patience and kindness my mother always displayed with seven children, always pointing us to Jesus.
One of your proudest moments? Receiving our certificate of occupancy on a home we recently built and hanging a painting that says, “You can grow here.”
What inspires you? The livestream on IHOP. I love that it’s available 24/7 and you can listen to previous days as well. That house is asking, praying, seeking, you name it. And God answers to those who knock. It is inspiring to reap and gain from a ministry hundreds of miles away. It fuels my day to be a mom of two boys.
Who inspires you? My husband Nate. I have never met a more compassionate, prayerful, and man full of integrity. He never ceases to amaze me in his striving for truth.
What makes you laugh? Everything. My son makes fart sounds and that’s pretty funny.
What’s a current indulgence for you? Dark chocolate. Every day.
What are you passionate about now, that you used to not care about? I love to read now. I throw down about six books a month. If you have a good one, I want to know about it!
What’s something new that you’re learning in your job that has surprised you? A mother isn’t surprised often. But I have been surprised by the leaders and Elders here. They are AHHMAAZZINNG! The connection in relationships they are building in this house are full of love.
Your idea of a perfect day? Blue bird day on the ski mountain in 40 degree weather.
What’s currently in your CD player? Jon Thurlow
Your childhood ambition? To fly using Grocery bags for wings. There is still a slight ambition to do this. How big do they make trash bags?
Your first job? Selling shirts and gifts at a tourist gift shop in the 8th grade
What is your greatest memory? Sunscreen. It has the keys to my most lovely memories, camping with family in Lake Powell and boating.
What is your favorite movie? Honestly, not sure. But I like Marvel movies.
What do you look for in a close friend? Humor and Silliness.
What’s something new that you’ve learned about the Bible lately, that has surprised you? As the word is fully living, it never ceases to amaze me when I read something in the Gospel for the 10th time and get some new insight from it. Just yesterday we were talking about change. Change is good when God is stirring it. Stagnant water isn’t good and it reminded me of John 5:4 and the pools of Bethesda. God’s angel would stir the waters once a year and the first person to get in would be healed. I immediately was full of hope that when God stirs the waters in our lives, we can be the first to jump in too. He’s bringing change and healing. But the best part is when this is happening in the Bible, Jesus asks a man who has been laying next to those waters for 38 years who has not been the first one in to get healed why he’s still there. And instead of having to be the first one to get into the stirring water, boom! Jesus heals the man on the Sabbath! So in this season, am I seeing water stirred? Are there weights I am carrying that I don’t need to? Am I sick? Are there too many things to get done in this one day? Anything. Jesus comes up to me by my mat where I lay and tells me, get up, grab your mat, and walk. He heals me mentally, physically, and the stirring waters are now welcome in my life like the south winds of Song of Solomon.
What do you think makes a good leader, someone that you’ll follow? A leader is passionate about what they are leading others to. They spend time reflecting on what they believe in. They don’t need to be the loudest in the room, just the fullest, and they can’t help but spill over and onto the people around them.
Your favorite snack? I really enjoy salads or chocolate.
If you were given an extra hour in a day to do whatever you want, what would you do? Read or build something out of wood.
What is something that most people don’t know about you? My middle name is Jean.
What’s one goal you have for the next year? To be a part of a children’s ministry where the Spirit is fanning the flame continuously. To be a part of ministry where those who come in are in the shadow of His wings. To be a part of every child’s life in Vinelife. To laugh with them and to enjoy God together.
What have you read recently that really inspired or excited you? Loving Our Kids on Purpose
What is your definition of a retreat? The Caribbean
What has God been showing you lately that has surprised you? God surprises me by how much he cares about connection. He is fully God, Jesus, and the Spirit. And out of that revelation, I believe the church is fully beginning to mature in how important our connection to one another is in the church, family, and friends. We were not created to be alone.
What’s your biggest challenge? Showing up to the gym on Monday mornings.
Your most recent purchase? A friend showed me these sensory balls. I’m a touchy person and bought them. They are fun. Just stick your hands in. You will be there for a while. My kids and I take turns. It’s kind of funny.
What’s God doing in your life that you are celebrating right now? I’m really just enjoying His presence. We just celebrated our 11th year of marriage and I can’t help but reflect on how faithful God is.
