As we start a new year, we believe this is an opportune time to seek the face of Jesus and pray for increased fruitfulness in 2022.
Fasting and prayer is a way we ignite a new spiritual hunger in our heart for Jesus and His kingdom among us.
Join us for 21 days of fasting and prayer
starting January 16 – February 5, 2022.
A Prayer Guide will be available with specific
prayer points for Vinelife.
What is fasting?
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is taught in both the Old and New Testaments in the Bible. Jesus expected His followers to fast, and He said that God rewards fasting.
Fasting, according to the Bible, means to voluntarily reduce or eliminate your intake of food for a specific time and purpose.
“When you give up eating, don’t put on a sad face like the hypocrites. They make their faces look sad to show people they are giving up eating. I tell you the truth, those hypocrites already have their full reward. So when you give up eating, comb your hair and wash your face. Then people will not know that you are giving up eating, but your Father, whom you cannot see, will see you. Your Father sees what is done in secret, and he will reward you.” Matthew 6:16-18
Fasting is not a way to earn God’s favor through religious performance. However, through fasting we enlarge our hearts and are reminded that our deeper hunger is for the voice of Jesus. We learn to lean into God in our weakness and pull from heaven for our strength and focus on God.
Please remember that every person is different and you should only choose what is a healthy and safe choice for you as you listen to the Lord.
